Pollock will provide a broad range of products and services to other utilities, including electrical power, distribution services, risk management, power plant construction and operation, billing and metering services, power scheduling and energy management. He will capitalize on PGE's position as a leader in the area of evolving power markets and the construction and operation of electrical power systems.

Portland General and publicly owned utilities have a natural affinity, according to Pollock, because of their shared commitment to active participation and support of the communities they serve. This support includes economic development ventures, public/private partnerships, educational sponsorships, technological support and training, and support of area environmental, educational and human services groups and organizations.

Portland General has been involved in power marketing -- trading energy in much the same way that stocks or other commodities are traded -- since 1994, when the company established a sophisticated trading floor.

Since then Portland General has become one of the West's most aggressive power marketers, enabling the company to continue providing its customers with electricity at highly competitive rates. Portland General recently announced plans to merge with Enron Corp. of Houston, a company which enjoys national recognition for its power marketing capabilities. In creating this new post, PGE is committed to developing an even broader range of products and services that it will continue to offer its customers after the merger.

At BPA, Pollock's duties as group vice president included developing an initiative to reinvent the agency in light of industry restructuring, developing and implementing the agency's marketing plan, developing product and pricing policies and strategic direction for BPA's power, transmission and energy services. During his many years at the BPA, Pollock also worked as assistant power manager and assistant administrator in the office of power sales, directing programs for energy conservation, renewable resources, transmission and power operations. He also served as the BPA's representative to the Regional Review, the Western Systems Power Pool, and the Electric Power Research Institute's Research Advisory Committee.

Pollock worked nearly eight years at the Oregon Department of Energy and its predecessor agencies, including work as Administrator of Energy Conservation, and responsibility for overseeing state programs to regulate siting, construction, and operation of energy facilities.
