HP selected Portable Graphics to implement OpenGL on HP's VISUALIZE graphics workstations, due to Portable Graphics' extensive technical understanding of 2D and 3D graphics applications. This agreement with HP to develop OpenGL for HP systems demonstrates how Portable Graphics has significantly extended its relationship with HP and HP software developers. Portable Graphics also supplies NPGL NPGL Non Planar Graphics Library , a porting tool that allows applications developed with Silicon Graphics' proprietary IRIS GL graphics library to run on HP workstations.

"We are very pleased that Portable Graphics is releasing OpenGL for our graphics workstation family," said Mark A. Canepa, general manager of HP's Workstation Systems Division. "Their technical expertise and experience with our graphics products has resulted in a superior product that when combined with our workstations, provides a powerful combination for our customers, especially in the advanced visualization market."

"By providing a quality hardware-accelerated version of OpenGL for HP, Portable Graphics offers developers an implementation that fully exploits the speed and graphics capability offered by HP workstations," said Portable Graphics President Bhupi Bhasin. "This joint effort between HP and Portable Graphics expands the market for all HP 3D graphics developers and provides additional graphics performance."

Open Inventor 2.1.1 provides HP developers with a complete development solution. Open Inventor is an object-oriented developer's toolkit which simplifies and accelerates the process of writing high-performance, interactive 3D visualization and animation applications. HP developers can now increase their programming productivity 10 to 50 times over using straight OpenGL.

New enhancements in version 2.1.1 include a node for locate highlighting, an "all-in-one" manipulator, three nodes that support the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (virtual reality, language) Virtual Reality Modeling Language - (VRML) A draft specification for the design and implementation of a platform-independent language for virtual reality scene description.

VRML 1.0 was released on 1995-05-26.

All previous releases of Open Inventor (versions 2.0 and 2.0.1) have been made obsolete by Silicon Graphics, Inc.

HP is the world's leading supplier of open enterprise computing and is the second-largest computer supplier in the United States, with computer revenue of $25.3 billion in its 1995 fiscal year. HP has been delivering PA-RISC based business computers since 1986 with high reliability, data integrity, data availability and systems availability.

Hewlett-Packard Company is a leading global manufacturer of computing, communication and measurement products and services recognized for excellence in quality and support. HP has 102,300 employees and had revenue of $31.5 billion in its 1995 fiscal year.

Portable Graphics provides graphics software developers with open-system, cross-platform porting and development solutions for GL-based 3D visualization applications on a variety of platforms. The company is the leading third-party supplier of GL, OpenGL, and Open Inventor on workstations and PC platforms. -0-
