Hahn was elected in 2001 and reelected in 2005, running unopposed. The 15th District encompasses the Los Angeles communities of Watts, Wilmington, Harbor Gateway, Harbor City, Athens on the  for their concerns for the San Pedro waterfront.

I believe it is entirely appropriate for the city's elected officials to encourage the Port of Los Angeles The Port of Los Angeles is located on San Pedro Bay in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, approximately 20 miles (30 km) south of downtown. Also called Los Angeles Harbor and WORLDPORT LA  to spruce up the waterfront as long as it can be sure it will have the funds for such essential investments as air quality improvements, which are of concern to the communities both near the port and farther afield. And I believe it is appropriate for port staff to inform the commissioners when staff has more current information to offer.
