Port Makes Development Deal.


The Port of Los Angeles The Port of Los Angeles is located on San Pedro Bay in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, approximately 20 miles (30 km) south of downtown. Also called Los Angeles Harbor and WORLDPORT LA  has awarded a $78 million contract to Anaheim-based Sully-Miller Contracting Co. to develop more than 300 acres of cargo storage space as part of the port's massive Pier 400 container terminal A container terminal is a facility where cargo containers are transhipped between different transport vehicles, for onward transportation. The transhipment may be between ships and land vehicles, for example trains or trucks, in which case the terminal is described as a  project.

Sully-Miller plans to use about 125 workers for the project, which is scheduled to begin in March and be completed by May 2002.

Phase I of Pier 400, future home of the mammoth mammoth, name for several large prehistoric elephants of the extinct genus Mammuthus, which ranged over Eurasia and North America in the Pleistocene epoch.  Maersk Sealand terminal, is also expected to be finished by that time.

Sully-Miller, which recently completed a $30 million Caltrans project in Riverside, is a U.S. subsidiary of French company Colas Colas is a variant of Nicolas.
