The Florida Lottery announced today "$1,000,000 CASH SPECTACULAR" Scratch-Off game winner John Herston, of Port Charlotte became the game's 10th and final winner of the $1 million top prize. The Florida Lottery launched the "$1,000,000 CASH SPECTACULAR" Scratch-Off game January 7, 2003. The $10 game features more than $90 million in cash prizes, including 10 $1 million instant cash prize winners, and 120 cash prizes of $10,000. Tickets can be purchased at more than 11,600 Florida Lottery retail locations. There are still cash prizes remaining.
The Florida Lottery has transferred more than $13 billion to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fun for Florida's schools to date. The Lottery was created in 1986 for the purpose of enabling the people of our state to benefit from significant additional moneys for education.
Herston, 49, is the owner of Herston Electrical Company. He was joined by his wife Judi at the Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee when he claimed his prize. This is not the first time Herston has been a Florida Lottery winner. He won $10,000 from the recent Cash Bonanza Scratch-Off game, a vacation to Key West from another Scratch-Off ticket and $250 from a CASH 3 ticket.
"I bought the ticket at my usual location on Sunday and then took it home before I scratched it off," Herston said. "When I started scratching it, I first saw that I won $50,000 and assumed I was on to something. I kept on scratching and realized I won the $1 million top prize. I told my wife when I found out, not to get excited, but our troubles are over."
"After John showed me the ticket, I said no way that we won, Judi said. "When I finally believed it, we just started jumping up and down, screaming and hugging each other!"
