Pope celebrates with lay groups.

Benedict is the regnal name of the current Roman pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI (2005–present) and has been the name of fourteen other popes (and three antipopes):
  • Pope Benedict I (575–579)
 met with 400,000 representatives of over 100 movements and communities founded within the last 50 years or so. Included in the St. Peter's St. Peter's or similar terms may mean:

  • St. Peter's, County Dublin, Republic of Ireland
  • St Peter's, Guernsey
  • St Peter's, Kent, United Kingdom
  • St Peters, Leicester, Leicestershire, a suburb of Leicester, England
 Square gathering were approved charismatic groups such as the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships.

Pentecost, said the Holy Father, "is not only the origin of the Church and, therefore, in a special way, her feast; Pentecost is also the feast of the creation. The world does not exist of itself, it comes from the creative Spirit of God.... Those who, as Christians, believe in the Creating Spirit, are aware of the fact that we cannot use and abuse the material world as a simple instrument to enact our desires."

The event was the Second World Congress for these mostly lay groups. The first was convened in 1998 by Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus PP.
