Pomerantz balancing act is a wonder to behold.

Just returned from a business trip to Las Vegas, and hours before a meeting at Giorgio Armani in New York, a busy Laura Pomerantz, principal and founding partner of PBS Realty Advisors, LLC, said that balance was vitally important in her life.

"Family, work, community and my contribution to my community are all things that drive me, but finding a balance is essential," said Pomerantz, whose schedule has just been tweaked up a notch by her firm's recent elevation to global status.

The six-year-old company she founded with partners John Brod and Morton Schrander has just become part of the Realogy Corporation, the world's largest real estate franchisor.

The meteoric rise of the 17-man boutique to a stratosphere occupied by a select few of the world's leading companies is a result of PBS Realty's August partnering with ONCOR International, one of the five biggest commercial firms in the world. ONCOR subsequently announced it would join the Realogy Franchise Group in a strategic move to further enhance its scope of services.

ONCOR had chosen to partner with PBS based on the New York boutique's extensive network of industry relationships and ability to provide clients with customized real estate strategies. It is a network and reputation that Pomerantz and her partners have prided themselves in ever since they started the business in 2000. Explained Pomerantz, "PBS had done business with several of ONCOR's clients already without knowing that they were ONCOR's. The clients were very pleased with our service, our quality of work, our local intelligence and our good relationships in the country and in the market place."

The partnership with ONCOR, according to Pomerantz, will give PBS' clients access to a whole host of new market opportunities on an international basis.

Pomerantz--who specializes in tenant representation focusing on strategic

planning and tactical plan formation--has handled hundreds of thousands of square feet in leasing deals during her real estate career and put her name on the city's brokerage map with clients that include some of the fashion world's biggest names, including Armani, David Yurman, Stuart Weitzman, Ted Baker, Elie Tahari and Abercrombie & Fitch.

But her very first deal in the city was with a law firm that she negotiated into nearly 300,000 s/f of space at 180 Maiden Lane. While Pomerantz puts that one down to beginner's luck, it was a harbinger of things to come as she quickly became a major player in the brokerage world handling deals that include one million square feet of transactions for Bloomberg L.P., a restructuring and expansion for Liz Claiborne of 368,000 square feet and retail and office leasing and occupancy analysis for Donna Karan International.

Despite her success in the world of real estate, Pomerantz originally set out to dominate the fashion world. Born and raised in Florida, she graduated from Miami Bay Community College and was encouraged early on to work in her father's nine retail stores in and around Miami Beach.

She went on to become executive vice president of the fashion firm, Leslie Fay Companies, Inc., supervising several of its upscale fashion divisions. But, after 18 years, Pomerantz heeded the advice of a friend when she found herself looking for a new career direction.

"My friend had made the transition from fashion to the corporate world, so I decided to follow suit. I received my license from NYU, because I wanted some foundation in real estate outside of the creative side to see what it would be like and, 11 and half years later, I'm still here," Pomerantz said.

She soon landed a top post at S.L. Green where she honed her skills before joining Newmark in 1996 as a senior managing director.

Pomerantz said her drive to succeed in life is a combination of the work ethic her parents instilled in her and her own active mind that's channeled best in business. "Mostly though, I've been driven by wanting my family to have the best in life," said Pomerantz, whose daughter lives in Los Angeles, and whose two stepdaughters and husband live in live in New York. "My family is extremely important to me, and I am fortunate to have a very close family." She is the youngest of three sisters and says healthy competition was part of their growth.

"We were three girls with healthy competitive spirits, that were balanced by supporting each other, and I'm very proud of what my sisters have accomplished in life ... I had great role models."

One of her sisters is a state senator in Florida, and the other owns her own successful company.

Despite her busy life, Pomerantz is very involved with several charities. She is a member of the Carnegie Hall Board of Trustees and its Executive Committee; she is Chairman of Carnegie Hall's special events committee; and she is also on the Board of Directors of the Richard Tucker Foundation, a non-profit cultural organization.

"I've always been a music lover. It's the first thing I put on when I get home, when I get in the car and even when I'm in my office, and I think it's such an important part of living in New York. It's important to help those who are less fortunate than you," she said.

"Sometimes the Blackberry doesn't allow me to have that balance that I try to keep," she said. "But that's the most important word, balance, because you need to keep your perspective and make time for what is important whenever it is appropriate to do so, while still being in constant communication with my clients."
