Polys show their pride.

When Justen Michael moved to Manhattan in 1999, he headed for the Lesbian and Gay Community Center sure that he'd meet other polyamorists--people looking for long-term, multipartner relationships--like himself. Instead he found himself trying to explain the polyamory movement to center employees. So he formed Polyamorous NYC, a support group for fellow "polys"--and 58 people turned up for the first meeting. Michael claims that there are now more than 50 other poly organizations nationwide, and the New York group is planning to hold the first annual Poly Pride Day in New York's Central Park on September 15. "I want to achieve greater awareness about relationship options," says Michael, who hopes to attract 500 people to the event. "I think that monogamy is an OK concept for some people. But in poly relationships the passion is more intense-and there's less likelihood of getting bored."
