Last week's announcement that Assemblyman Tom Hayden Thomas Emmett "Tom" Hayden (born December 11, 1939) is an American social and political activist and politician, most famous for his involvement in the anti-war and civil rights movements of the 1960s. , D-Los Angeles, is seeking the L.A. City Council seat being vacated by the term-limited Michael Feuer Michael Feuer (1958-)[1] is a Californian politician and lawyer. He now represents the 42nd Assembly District which includes Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and part of Los Angeles in the California State Assembly. He was elected in 2006 on the Democratic ticket.  raised a few eyebrows.

But Hayden isn't the only candidate who appears to be headed in reverse. Two others gunning for City Council seats next year are state legislators who've been ousted because of term limits. (Assemblyman Scott Wildman Scott Wildman was a California State Assemblyman from 1996 until 2000. That year, he lost a State Senate primary to Dr. Jack Scott, an Assemblyman from a neighboring district. Wildman received 46.7% of the vote.  is running for Jackie Goldberg's Hollywood seat, and Assemblyman Carl Washington is seeking Rita Walters' post.)

"This is term limits run amok Amok (ā`mŏk), in the Bible, post-Exilic Jewish family. . It's seat-swapping to the extreme," said Howard Sunkin, a lobbyist with Cerrell Associates. "You're not getting new young leaders stepping up to the City Council; instead you're getting retreads."
