Plumbers get their day as Association celebrates 125 years.


Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg declared March 24, 2007, Association of Contracting Plumbers Day in honor of the ACP's 125th anniversary.

The event was celebrated at a gala dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Manhattan attended by over 230 plumbing contractors, City officials and representatives of the leading construction contractor organizations in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

ACP - Algebra of Communicating Processes
 is the association which represents licensed plumbing contractors in collective bargaining collective bargaining, in labor relations, procedure whereby an employer or employers agree to discuss the conditions of work by bargaining with representatives of the employees, usually a labor union.  negotiations with Plumbers' Union, Local One.

The Mayor in his proclamation An act that formally declares to the general public that the government has acted in a particular way. A written or printed document issued by a superior government executive, such as the president or governor, which sets out such a declaration by the government.  lauded the ACP: "Since 1881, these skilled professionals have installed sanitary systems in our homes and businesses, and in many of the buildings that comprise our famous skyline. Today, contracting plumbers are on the job at almost every construction site in the city, ensuring that our residents and visitors have access to clean water and first-rate plumbing."

"We are grateful that the Mayor has chosen to recognize the ACP membership for their support in helping to improve the quality of life in our City," explained Stewart O'Brien, ACP's executive vice president.

At the anniversary dinner, the ACP announced that its annual scholarship program would be named for Leonard X. Farbman, who served as the ACP President in 1962 and who has been a pioneer in the plumbing industry, serving numerous leadership roles in the ACP and its predecessor organizations over the last half-century.

These scholarships have been awarded for 25 years. To date, $750,000 has been given to more than 400 students. Recipients of the Scholarship Program may attend any accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

"Leonard is the perfect person to name our scholarship program after," said Vincent Aspromonte, ACP president. "He stands for hard work, integrity and professionalism. He is the industry giant whom we can all look up to."

The ACP awards $1.000 per year to 10 deserving college students who are the children of union journeymen, apprentices or licensed plumbers.

City Comptroller William Thompson also spoke at the dinner. He saluted the ACP as crucial to ensuring the public's health and helping the city economy to grow.
