Plum Creek Names Tom Reed Vice President and General Manager, Southern Resources Unit.

SEATTLE -- Plum Creek Timber Company, Inc. (NYSE:PCL) promoted Tom Reed to the newly-created position of vice president and general manager of the Southern Resources unit. This unit, which combined Plum Creek's Atlantic South and Gulf South regions, was recently created to better integrate common markets, customers, logistics, silviculture practices and contractor management throughout nine southern states in which Plum Creek manages timberland. In his new position, Reed's responsibilities have increased from previously overseeing the Atlantic South region to managing all operations and resources within the expanded Southern Resources unit.

Specifically, Reed will oversee sustainable forestry management of all of the company's approximately 4.33 million acres in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas. Among other things, Reed and his team will focus on marketing and logistics and identifying and executing "best practices" throughout Plum Creek's southern timberlands. Reed will continue to report to Executive Vice President Len Kosar and will work from Plum Creek's Athens, Ga., office.

Reed began his career in 1973 with Champion International, where he served as vice president of forest resources when International Paper acquired the company in 2000. He then worked for International Paper as region manager, southeast operations until joining Plum Creek in 2001.

Reed earned a Bachelor of Science in forest management from Iowa State University. He serves on the board of the Florida Forestry Association and the North Carolina Forestry Foundation Board. He also serves on the advisory committee of the Center for Forest Business and is a member of the University of Georgia's External Forestry Advisory Committee.
