MARINE investigators called for small fishing boats to carry rocket distress flares after a father and son died at sea.
Liam and Conor Conor is an Irish male first name that may have been derived either from the Irish name Conchubhair. The name "Conchobhar" literally translates as "Consciousness like a Barr (top of a hill or a hill fort) (in modern spelling Conchúr or Cnochúr Kennedy were found tied together near their wooden 6m shrimp boat Cassie in Donegal Bay after it capsized in heavy swells in December 2007.
They set off two hand-held flares which were not spotted until another local fisherman became concerned, went to look from high ground and spotted red glows in the water.
Both men from the Inver area had been in the water in for at least an hour and died from hypothermia hypothermia

It took 26 minutes for the Sligo-based rescue helicopter to reach Doorin Point.
The Marine Casualty Investigation Board report recommended boats under 12m carry six rocket parachute parachute, umbrellalike device designed to retard the descent of a falling body by creating drag as it passes through the air. The development of modern aircraft has led to many experiments in the aerodynamic problems of parachute design, with the result that the flares which shoot 300m in the air and burn for 40 seconds.
It said: "It appears that only hand-held flares were carried.
"These can be seen in the vicinity but are lost from view if there is a headland in the way or the shore is deserted or in particularly heavy seas.
"A rocket flare can be seen from a great range."
Investigators said the helicopter team found them one foot apart tied together with a lifebuoy lifebuoy n → bouée f de sauvetage rope.
They went out after 10am to shift shrimp pots to deeper water ahead of forecasted bad weather and rough seas.
But conditions worsened and a heavy Atlantic swell hit the bay. Other boats, including one owned by Liam's brother, were in the area at the time but there were no witnesses.
