LA Theatre Works, founded in 1974, has produced fine audio theater for over a decade. "I wanted to select and put together a library that represents the best of American writing from the end of the nineteenth century to the present," explains Susan Albert Loewenberg, LATW's Producing Director. "I look at things and wonder what is their place in the American canon? If it is a play from the forties, then I decide how it fits into the writing of that era. Whether or not the author is considered a great writer is not as important as how he or she speaks to that particular generation. I try to be as ethnically diverse as I can with the selections, and cover a wide range of subjects--work with exciting new writers--ones that I feel will achieve recognition and represent the classics and more well known pieces. I try for an eclectic e·clec·tic adj. 1.
