Plans in the works to upgrade two local Pizza Hut restaurants.

Pizza Hut is preparing to place a two-for-one construction order aimed at replacing a pair of the local franchise owner's five Eugene-Springfield restaurants.

The full-service Pizza Hut at 579 East Broadway and the carry-out and delivery outlet at 1930 River Road both will be demolished de·mol·ish

"They're just going to be more up-to-date, prototype buildings there," said architect Rodger Brooks of Augusta, Kan. "It's just basically replacing and upgrading the existing facilities."

All five local Pizza Hut outlets - four in Eugene and one in Springfield - are owned by Fugate Enterprises Inc. of Wichita, Kan. The company owns more than 150 Pizza Hut franchises nationwide, along with several Taco Bell Taco Bell Corp., a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., is a Mexican-style quick service restaurant chain based in Irvine, California, United States. The restaurant has locations primarily in the United States and Canada, but also operates outlets in several other markets.  and Blockbuster block·bust·er

 to discuss plans for the buildings, but Brooks - spokesman for the company's construction projects - said Fugate routinely upgrades and replaces its buildings. "I think those two were getting fairly old, and they just needed upgrading to more current standards," Brooks said. "They'll be better equipped for the new menu offerings, and so forth."

The River Road outlet will continue to be for carry-outs and delivery orders only, but the East Broadway building will be somewhat larger than the existing restaurant and will have seating for 96, he said. Both new buildings will have drive-up windows, if approved by Eugene's planning staff See: central planning team.  members.

The projects still are in the planning stage, but Brooks said demolition Demolition is the opposite of construction: the tearing-down of buildings and other structures. It contrasts with deconstruction, which is the taking down of a building while carefully preserving valuable elements for re-use.  should begin within four months and construction of the new buildings will take another 90 days. No estimate of the projects' costs were available.
