Pius X society rebuffs the Vatican.

Rome -- The traditionalist Society of St. Plus X says that reconciliation with Rome is not an option at present, despite the Vatican expanding the use of the Tridentine rite.

 group that broke with the Vatican in 1988 under the leadership of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, reported that "nothing has changed regarding Rome's willingness to follow the Council's orientations." He repeated the society's frequent accusation that Vatican II introduced a "mistaken" vision of the Catholic Church. So, although he rejoices that Pope Benedict has allowed a wider use of the Tridentine tire, he does not believe that the Pope's instructions are filtering down to local bishops. He said that his society will continue to ask the Vatican to lift the decree of excommunication excommunication, formal expulsion from a religious body, the most grave of all ecclesiastical censures. Where religious and social communities are nearly identical it is attended by social ostracism, as in the case of Baruch Spinoza, excommunicated by the Jews.  under which the society operates.
