Pirro, Hillary Clinton's opponent in the 2006 New York Senate race, shook hands with and introduced herself to everyone attending the lunch as she made her way to the podium. Once in front of the group, Pirro not only addressed general campaign issues such as the need to "protect jobs and the economy," tax cuts and homeland security money and tax assessments necessary for the state of New York, but she also touched upon subjects imperative to the real estate and building industries. "My mom and dad owned a few properties," Pirro said "I've seen what building owners, marketers and builders go through." Pirro went on to discuss the need for affordable housing in New York. Citing real estate and home building as some of "the most heavily regulated industries in the nation," she named tax cuts as the obvious solution to bring down prices. "Our mission is to build housing, affordable housing," Pirro said. "Our goal is to make affordable housing in New York City a reality." Pirro concluded that she wants to "help to build the American dream, which is to buy property." Having been involved in government for the last 30 years, Pirro is currently serving her third term as chief law enforcement officer of Westchester County. She has specialized in investigating and prosecuting hate and bias crimes, elder abuse, environmental crime, youth and gang violence, animal abuse, and child abuse, specifically pedophiles on the internet.
