FREMONT, Calif. -- VividLogic Inc., a leading provider of Home Entertainment Software Infrastructure for High Definition Televisions (HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates ) and High Definition Set Top Boxes (HDSTB) based in Fremont, CA, today announced that it has entered into a development and license agreement with Pioneer Corporation based in Tokyo, Japan, to license, enhance and distribute OCAP OCAP Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (Canada)
OCAP Open Cable Application Platform (middleware software specification)
OCAP Out of Control Action Plan
(TM) 1.0 software and related OpenCable(TM) Host Device (OCHD 2.0) software to consumer electronics and cable set-top box companies.

VividLogic, based in Fremont, CA, USA, will integrate its unique HDTV technologies into the Pioneer licensed OCAP software to develop ready-to-market software and middleware for use in OCHD 2.0 devices, which are expected to grow rapidly in the coming years.

The OCHD 2.0 specification defines the requirements for bidirectional OpenCable(TM) Host Devices. In addition to the OCAP(TM) 1.0 software platform, OCHD 2.0 requires other software such as DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) A cable modem standard from the CableLabs research consortium (www.cablelabs.com), which provides equipment certification for interoperability. (R) Set-top Gateway, CableCARD(TM) (M-), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  1394, etc. Consumer electronics companies often find it time consuming and difficult to build these components for their various products. This agreement enables VividLogic to pool its HDTV and HDSTB software with the licensed OCAP software to offer a comprehensive OCHD 2.0 software solution to its customers.

This agreement will help Pioneer improve time-to-market for its bidirectional digital cable-ready products and will help VividLogic offer a comprehensive software solution for OCHD 2.0 devices to its customers.

"We have invested significant man-years in developing the OCAP solution and have participated in several interoperability tests at CableLabs," said Takashi Sakakibara, president, Pioneer Research Center USA. "We believe VividLogic's proven track record of delivering software solutions for consumer electronics, and its relationship with CableLabs will accelerate successful testing and certification of digital cable products."
