"Our 36X CD-ROM drive boasts improved performance, increased transfer rates and speedy access times," said Paul Dempsey, senior vice president, sales & marketing, Pioneer New Media Technologies. "In addition, our unique tray and slot load 36X drives can be mounted vertically or horizontally for added flexibility to our OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and and kit manufacturer customers." The 36X drive takes advantage of Pioneer's exceptional spindle motor design and vibration canceling techniques to operate at a high rate of 7300 rpm. Available with a SCSI SCSI in full Small Computer System Interface Once common standard for connecting peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, etc.) to small and medium-sized computers. SCSI has given way to faster standards, such as Firewire and USB. or ATAPI (AT Attachment Packet Interface) The specification for ATA (IDE) tape drives and CD-ROMs. See IDE. ATAPI - AT Attachment Packet Interface interface, the drive sustains a maximum data transfer rate of 5400KB/sec. supported by a burst rate of 13.3MB/sec. For quick access to data, the drive supports 60ms (average) and 90ms (maximum) random seek and 70ms (average) and 140ms (maximum) random access times. It also features a 128KB buffer. The 36X CD-ROM drive is equipped with Pioneer's revolutionary slot-load disc mechanism for safer disc handling. It grips the disc by both edges without touching the data surfaces and operates gently to eliminate any risk of damage. In addition, ejected discs are held in the slot with the central hole visible so the disc can be removed without leaving fingerprints on the data surfaces. This unique mechanism also enables both horizontal and vertical mounting for added flexibility -- ideal for the requirements of OEMs and CD Tower manufacturers. The tray model features new tray clips that secure the disc within the tray without touching the data surfaces. The tray-loading model allows secure mounting of the drive vertically or horizontally. The Pioneer 36X drive is available to the OEM channel and has a suggested retail price of $59.95 for the ATAPI version and $99.95 for SCSI.
