Pioneer Debuts Industry's First Modular, High-Capacity, High-Performance DVD Library System at AIIM'99; New Generation Jukebox, ''FlexLibrary'' Offers Future-Proof Solutions.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1999--

Pioneer New Media Technologies Inc. Tuesday moved high-capacity, mass-storage DVD "jukeboxes" a generation ahead with the introduction of its new FlexLibrary.

Named for its modular approach, the DRM-7000 FlexLibrary can be configured by users with a wide combination of DVD/CD drives See CD-ROM ROM - Read-Only Memory

and disc media to fit specific applications. It enables users to mix and match DVD-R, DVD/CD-ROM or CD-R technologies.

Remarkably, the system can accommodate a maximum of 720 discs with two drives; a maximum of 16 drives and 370 discs, or it can be configured with any drive-to-disc ratio in between, allowing users the flexibility to create the system of their choice.

The system comes with both a single and 20-disc mail slot allowing importing and exporting of discs without impacting system performance. The unique 20-disc Hypermagazine offers a built-in memory feature enabling off-line archiving by identifying appropriate media as it is loaded into the mail slot.

Also available is Pioneer's exclusive disc-flip module that enables capability of reading double-sided DVD media, effectively doubling the library's capacity.

"FlexLibrary creates a `future-proof' mass-storage investment opportunity," said Paul Meyhoefer, director of sales and marketing for Pioneer New Media Technologies. "All too often users purchase a storage `solution' they soon outgrow. With FlexLibrary, customers can now configure the ideal library system by choosing just the modules they need, which reads their existing CD media and easily upgrade as new technologies are developed."

drives plus it will handle an internal version of Pioneer's 4.7GB DVD-R drive when it becomes available in Q4 1999. Future modules will support an even broader range of end-user needs including printing, video and networking capabilities. All modules can be hot-swapped on the fly and without tools.

Maintenance is a snap too. Pioneer has developed new, user-friendly self-diagnostic features for FlexLibrary. They include simple error history, logging and alert functions. A series of test modes offer end users full system command utilizing the library's simplified LCD panel.

The DRM-7000 FlexLibrary will be available in August 1999 starting at a SRP of $13,500. The base model includes the changer robotic unit, Hypermagazine and power supply modules. Typical configurations range from $18,990 to $32,765.
