Each recipe includes a description of the occasions on which each was served, and a commentary about the woman who usually prepared the dish, with many photos from her large and loving family. After reading the book introduction, chapter introductions, and recipe commentaries, one has a good sense of Pinner's loving family history. Her descriptions of the individuals featured make them come alive.
