The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  or end customer. The development kit can reduce time-to-market and development costs as the intricacies of the system design according to the ATCA specification have been researched and resolved, resulting in a kit that is completely deployable without modifications. The prototype blade reference is scheduled to be completed by the end of Q1 2006 and generally available to the public by the end of Q2 2006.
