Pinnacle Awards Reflect Wide Variety of Furniture.Fifth annual awards ceremony recognizes design excellence in furniture sold to the public. TRENDS AFFECTING THE furniture industry are reflected in the Pinnacle Awards competition sponsored annually by the American Society of Furniture Designers. There is a growing number of home office entries, as well as summer/casual groupings, said Steve Hodges of Steve Hodges Associates in Lexington, NC. Contemporary pieces are gaining a foothold in an industry that likes traditional, he added. Speaking at the ceremony at which the 2000 awards were presented, Hodges said, "Summer and casual furniture saw a huge increase in the number of entries, receiving the most of any category this year, in a wide variety of styles and prices, pointing out the growing importance of this category for the home." Quality and quantity of entries are increasing, Hodges said, as industry enthusiasm grows for the five-year-old competition recognizing design excellence in furniture sold to the public. Winners were chosen in 13 categories and announced at a banquet in High Pont during the International Home Furnishings Market in October. Winners in several categories are presented here.
