Pingtel Selected for 2004 Pulver Top 100.

WOBURN, Mass. -- Selection Validates Industry Impact of Pingtel's Open Source IP Communications A general term for networks that use the IP protocol for voice (VoIP) and video traffic. See IP telephony.  Business Model as an Integral Part of the Future of the Communications Ecosystem

Pingtel Corporation, the leading provider of open source, business-grade enterprise communications solutions, today announced that the company has been selected as part of the 2004 Pulver 100, a list of the privately-held companies believed to reside at the apex of the worldwide communications sector, and that best represent the future of the communications ecosystem. Pingtel's open source IP communications business model, which unlocks enterprise customers from proprietary call control and single vendor lock in, was judged to demonstrate one of the topmost contributions to the IP communications industry, helped spread IP communications worldwide with little or no dependence on traditional telephone networks, equipment or service providers.

"The 2004 Pulver 100 lists the companies that I believe have the technology, business model and market opportunity to play an integral part in how voice services are deployed, delivered and consumed," said Jeff Pulver Jeff Pulver is the Chairman and founder of pulver.com, and a founder of the VoIP industry.

Pulver is the chief writer of what's referred to as "the Pulver Order", which was adopted in 2004 by the Federal Communications Commission as the first FCC ruling regarding internet

"Pingtel's move to an open source business model, combined with a 100 percent standards-based product offering, presents a compelling and cost effective IP PBX (Internet Protocol Private Branch eXchange) A telephone switch that supports voice over IP (VoIP). Pingtel's business model of delivering a standards-based, software IP PBX developed via the open source community, differs from the traditional, vertically integrated telecom model, focusing instead on open interfaces, connectivity decoupled from services and software decoupled from hardware. Pingtel's business model is based on delivering service and support for the source code and binaries for SIPxchange IP PBX and CallManager and SIP softphones similar to the existing Linux-based subscription model.

"The VoIP market is ripe for open source and Pingtel is proud to be selected as a company that will help reset the enterprise communications market," said William J. Rich, president and CEO of Pingtel Corp. "Pingtel's open source business model has already been widely adopted by Fortune 500 companies, leading universities and a wide variety of small and medium enterprises as a means to lower the cost of voice services."

Pingtel's enterprise communications suite includes the SIPxchange PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). , including unified messaging Having access to e-mail, voice mail and faxes via a common computer application or by telephone. For example, unified messaging may send faxes and digitized voice mail to a mail server that turns them into e-mail attachments. , SIPxchange CallManager, providing enterprise level application routing, and SIP softphones. SIPxchange software runs on standard PC server hardware and uses the Linux operating system operating system (OS)
