Mister Bill automates BBS (1) (Bulletin Board System) A computer system used as an information source and forum for a particular interest group. They were widely used in the U.S. user invoicing and system activity reporting for FirstClass Systems. Mister Bill aggregates all of the FirstClass Server and user statistics into a well organized usage data table. Mister Bill allows the system administrator to set up a list of online services with prices, which it charges against users collectively or individually, based on usage. Once invoices are generated, they are automatically sent to the user's FirstClass mailbox A simulated mailbox in the computer that holds e-mail messages. Mailboxes are stored on disk as a file of messages, a database of messages or as an individual file for each message. The standard mailboxes are usually In, Out, Trash and Junk (Spam). . Mister Bill includes five integrated modules for $495: 1) the statistics gathering and report generating module; 2) the user database and maintenance window which can import a FirstClass user list; 3) the invoice database and maintenance window which allows current and past due invoices to be reviewed and edited; 4) the products/services database and maintenance window which allows the administrator to define the BBS services and prices; and 5) the invoice mailing module. The statistics gathering and report generating module runs as a regularly scheduled FirstClass gateway outputting a report which Mister Bill imports. The report includes for each user: the number of logins, total time online, megabytes downloaded, client type and version. This module also generates server and gateway statistics, top downloads and more. This reporting module may also be purchased as a stand-alone product called Captain's Log for $150. Existing Captain's Log customers may upgrade to Mister Bill for $350. Another powerful feature of Mister Bill is its automatic software updating feature. If a client is not running the latest version of the FirstClass Client, Mister Bill will automatically detect the old version and attach the most recent client version to the next invoice.
