By using Citrix access infrastructure to create a mobile environment, PPHPC was able to save money on IT infrastructure while enhancing patient care.

The MEA, a global advocacy group promoting the benefits of workforce mobility, sponsors the Alliance's Mobile Impact Awards to recognize leading enterprises for successful deployments of mobile enterprise solutions. The award recognizes Pikes Peak's success using Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) Presentation Server to provide a real-time, cost-effective mobile environment that allows doctors and nurses to transition from using devices, such as a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM).  to a laptop, without missing a beat so they can take notes while visiting with patients -- consequently allowing more face time with patients and less time at their computer.

PPHPC wanted to improve the hospice patient care with better communication among caregivers. To do so, the hospice needed to modernize its paper notes and voice mail system in a cost-effective way to provide on-demand information access, while safeguarding medical data under Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1996.

Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  encryption for data security over the Internet. Now, staff can input their clinical notes directly into the patient information management application during visits, keeping the entire team up-to-date with the latest details. With patient care around the clock, on-demand access has had a huge impact on the quality of care and safety of patients.
