Picturing identity.


Knowledge of the self allows individual insights that are impossible for others to fully understand. The optimum opportunity to share such knowledge is through the self-portrait. Exploring self-portraits provides a focus that students can then turn on their own individual or cultural identities. A natural correlation concerning identity that you may want to pursue with your students is a comparison of self-portraits and autobiographies.
