Physics International Signs Agreement to Acquire Assets of Hewlett-Packard Co.'s Flash X-Ray Product Line.SAN LEANDRO San Leandro (săn lēăn`drō), city (1990 pop. 68,223), Alameda co., W Calif., on San Francisco Bay; inc. 1872. Metal, wood, and paper products; chemicals; leather goods; foods and beverages; medical equipment; lighting fixtures; and , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 1994--Physics International Co. (PI), an Olin Corp. subsidiary, announced that it has purchased the assets related to the Flash X-Ray product line of Hewlett-Packard (HP) Co. PI acquired essentially all the assets of the business located at HP's McMinnville, Ore., medical product facility. PI intends to move the operation to its San Leandro facility shortly after closing. Flash X-Ray systems provide high resolution radiographs with exposure times short enough to eliminate motion blur. Such systems record and study dynamic events where interposed material or pressure exclude the use of high-speed cameras. Typically studied are ballistics ballistics (bəlĭs`tĭks), science of projectiles. Interior ballistics deals with the propulsion and the motion of a projectile within a gun or firing device. , shaped charges A charge shaped so as to concentrate its explosive force in a particular direction. , explosives, behind armor studies, shock waves, and aerospace phenomena. Physics International Co. is committed to improve the excellent Flash X-Ray product through its combined capabilities in pulsed power Pulsed power is the term used to describe the science and technology of accumulating energy over a relatively long period of time and releasing it very quickly thus increasing the instantaneous power. , high voltage The term high voltage characterizes electrical circuits, in which the voltage used is the cause of particular safety concerns and insulation requirements. High voltage is used in electrical power distribution, in cathode ray tubes, to generate X-rays and particle beams, to electronics, and shaped charge development. PI intends to provide application engineering services and develop product improvements to enhance technical performance of the systems. PI is also committed to provide continuing product support to the existing customers. Physics International Co. is part of Olin's Aerospace Division located in Redmond, Wash. Olin Corp., whose principal businesses are specialty chemicals A Specialty chemical is a chemical produced for a specialized use. They are produced in lower volume than bulk chemicals, of which petrochemicals, made from oil feedstocks, are the most common. However, both are produced in a chemical plant. , materials and metals, defense, sporting ammunition, and aerospace, is a Fortune 200 Company headquartered in Stamford, Conn. CONTACT: Olin Corp.
