Physician Burnout Fear of Getting Help

Are you a physician who is struggling with a difficult emotional issue in your life or work? Are you afraid to turn to your peers for help? Are you afraid to turn to your medical association for help? Do you feel alone and unsure of how to navigate your way to a desirable outcome? If so, then this article may be the answer that you?ve been looking for.

Many physicians suffer in silence even when the local medical associations make significant efforts in creating physician health programs. Why is this? Well there are several reasons. 1. Generally the only help that is thought to be available comes from the local medical associations and/or the licensing bodies. 2. The physician health programs offered by these bodies are proactive largely to the point that they try to detect physicians at risk. The thrust to provide courses and seminars on well being rather than detection of illness is still sadly lagging behind. This is often due to insufficient resources and to the illness mind set of treatment that the medical establishment is still is stuck in.

3. Within the medical mind set psychotherapy or counseling is often one of the mainstays of treatment. Unfortunately most physicians find this inherently threatening because most have a defensive posture towards self reflection, feeling and sharing their deeper feelings and more importantly in disclosing private and personal matters with the very establishments that could impose undesirable conditions on their licensure.

4. There is a deep mistrust and fear of turning to one?s medical association or licensing body to get help.

Ultimately what happens is that many physicians avoid getting the help they need and hence only suffer more. It?s interesting that many medical associations are now starting to recognize this as a problem and have begun to enlist the help of qualified third parties such as executive & life coaches as well as alternative healthcare providers to address these limitations in their approach.

As a former psychiatrist, who now works to promote physician empowerment and resilience and who understands the stresses and strains of a physician?s life it is my observation that many physicians find the new approach much more desirable. Not only do they feel more comfortable sharing but they actually enjoy getting a new perspective based on the promotion of health and well being.

In order to help this and other groups such as veterinarians, nurses, teachers, executives, dentists, pharmacists, lawyers etc., I have developed a powerful and remarkably accessible modality called the Mind Resonance Process? (MRP) that facilitates the building of self esteem, self care, self confidence, emotional intelligence, inner peace, improved relationships, enhanced emotional, physical and spiritual health just to name a few.
