WHAT: To help welcome the 50,000 out-of-town fans to
Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Sports Congress, a division
of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, is
painting the town "Army/Navy." On December 3, this year's
game will mark the 79th played in Philadelphia and is
expected to generate more than $25 million in economic
impact. The following signage, and other commemoration of
the legendary interservice rivalry, will be showcased
throughout the city:
WHEN: November 22-December 3
-- Army/Navy Welcome Banners - As part of the official
Welcome Program for fans of the Army/Navy Game,
banners have been hung on street lampposts throughout
Center City and will remain up through the weekend of
the game. Army/Navy welcome signs are also currently
on display on the tops and sides of select taxicabs
and SEPTA buses throughout the city.
-- Pattison Ave. Station (Broad Street Subway) - Right
now, at the southernmost stop of the Broad Street
subway line, SEPTA riders can't turn in any direction
without looking at an Army/Navy Game poster.
Tuesday, November 29
-- Painting Lincoln Financial Field - Signage will be
hung throughout the stadium, and the field will be
painted with the 2005 Army/Navy Game logo (at the 50
yard line) and each academy's name on the end zones,
weather depending.
-- Banner on the Battleship New Jersey - Fit enough to be
placed on the historic Battleship New Jersey, which is
docked on the Camden, NJ, side of the Delaware River,
an Army/Navy banner will be hung.
Wednesday, November 30
-- Postcards for the troops - The Variety Club will place
holiday postcards in the cup holders of each of the
68,000 seats at Lincoln Financial Field. At Saturday's
game, fans can write messages on the cards and drop
them in Operation Gratitude drop boxes located
throughout the stadium. These cards, along with other
donated items, will be collected, boxed and delivered
to U.S. troops serving overseas. To learn more about

Thursday, December 1
-- U.S. Navy visiting ships - Two of the U.S. Navy's most
impressive ships will sail up the Delaware River and
dock at Penn's Landing. The ships will be available
for tours Friday, December 2 - Sunday, December 4.
(Due to security, the names of the ships and exact
times will not be made available until Wednesday,

Friday, December 2
-- "Here's to the Heroes" - Anheuser-Busch's "Here's to
the Heroes" 2005 tour will stop at Lincoln Financial
Field between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. to allow fans to the game
- as well as the community - to record and videotape
messages of support, encouragement and gratitude to
U.S. troops serving overseas. Traveling with the tour
are the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales and Marine
Sgt. Rocky Sickmann, a former Iran hostage and current
director at Anheuser-Busch.
-- Guests' checking in - All Center City hotels are
sold-out for Army/Navy Game weekend, and between 3-6
p.m. the lobbies of the Philadelphia Marriott and
Wyndham Philadelphia at Franklin Plaza (host hotel of
the U.S. Naval Academy) will be hopping with Army/Navy
fans checking in.
-- Patriot Games - Cadets and Midshipmen for the U.S.
Naval and Military Academies will compete in four
events throughout Philadelphia. The team with the most
points will win the Patriot Games trophy. At 8:15
a.m., Cadets and Midshipmen will take the challenge in
a "Rocky Relay" up the steps of the Philadelphia
Museum of Art. At Noon they will compete in a
Hole-in-One Challenge at the Shops of Liberty Place
(17th and Chestnut streets) and at 4:30 p.m. will
shoot-to-score in a "Basketball Blitz" at the Hank
Gathers Recreation Center (25th & Diamond streets).
-- Pep Rally - At noon, pep bands, cheerleaders, and Army
and Navy fans will feel the spirit of the game at the
official Pep Rally at the Shops of Liberty Place (17th
and Market streets).
