Phosphate fertilizer value of paper mill residuals.

APPLICATION: The results of this study may help mills evaluate the value of applying mill wastewater residuals to soil.

New federal strategies to limit surface water phosphorus phosphorus (fŏs`fərəs) [Gr.,=light-bearing], nonmetallic chemical element; symbol P; at. no. 15; at. wt. 30.97376; m.p. 44.1°C;; b.p. about 280°C;; sp. gr. 1.82 at 20°C;; valence −3, +3, or +5.  loading from agricultural fields may affect many paper mills that are beneficially land-applying wastewater treatment residuals. The phosphate fertilizer value of five paper mill residuals was evaluated in long-term incubation incubation /in·cu·ba·tion/ (in?ku-ba´shun)

planning to address the federal strategies. In four of the five paper mill residuals evaluated, the phosphate fertilizer value was substantially lower than commercial fertilizer.
