Phoenix students to work alongside United Airlines employees on nationwide 'Take Your Community to Work Day'.


PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1996--Checking in travelers at airport gates, sorting baggage, servicing aircraft and passengers -- these are a few of the jobs 10 students from Marcos De Niza High School School History
When the Tempe Union High School District made plans to build a third high school in what was then the southern tip of the city's urban development, the name "Marcos de Niza High School" was proposed and unanimously accepted.
 will tackle as part of "Take Your Community to Work Day" at Sky Harbor Airport Sky Harbor Airport is the name for several airports including:
  • Sky Harbor Airport (KDYT) Duluth, Minnesota
  • Sky Harbor Airport (S86) Sultan, Washington
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
 on March 6.

United Airlines is the national sponsor for this workplace event aimed at providing students with positive role models and career choices. The program gives students a unique opportunity to spend a day working alongside airport and airline employees.

"Take Your Community to Work Day reflects our corporate commitment to community service," says United Airlines Phoenix City Manager Rich Vehring. "We believe that participation in this program will enhance the lives of the students who participate and the lives of the United employee-owners who will spend time with them."

 airline experience in the following areas:

o Students will be working with employees at ticket counters and

in the gate areas.

o Students will be sorting bags in the baggage room and helping

outside on the airport ramp The airport ramp or apron is part of an airport. It is usually the area where aircraft are parked, unloaded or loaded, refueled or boarded. Although the use of the apron is covered by regulations, such as lighting on vehicles, it is typically more accessible to users than  area.

o Students will be helping Skycaps check-in passengers outside

the terminal.

o Students will learn how load planning and passenger planning

works.

United Airlines' nationwide participation in Take Your Community to Work Day will involve thousands of students in more than 75 communities in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America.
