United Airlines is the national sponsor for this workplace event aimed at providing students with positive role models and career choices. The program gives students a unique opportunity to spend a day working alongside airport and airline employees. "Take Your Community to Work Day reflects our corporate commitment to community service," says United Airlines Phoenix City Manager Rich Vehring. "We believe that participation in this program will enhance the lives of the students who participate and the lives of the United employee-owners who will spend time with them." The students will gain hands-on hands-on adj. Involving active participation; applied, as opposed to theoretical: "We're involved in hands-on operations, pulling levers, pushing buttons" Arthur R. Taylor. airline experience in the following areas: o Students will be working with employees at ticket counters and in the gate areas. o Students will be sorting bags in the baggage room and helping outside on the airport ramp The airport ramp or apron is part of an airport.
