+ v3.01 (PhoenixCARD Manager Plus), is included in IBM's new PC DOS 7, which was also announced Monday.

IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  has included Phoenix's PCMCIA enabling software in its last three major PC DOS releases.

PCM+ v3.01 provides major functional enhancements over PCM+ in the previous PC DOS release. A major improvement is Phoenix's advanced PCM+ User Interface, available under both DOS and Windows. New ease-of-use features include:

o The ability to launch associated applications upon insertion

of a specified PC Card providing a seamless interface between

PCMCIA and software applications;

o Dynamic card configuration which reduces PC Card set up time;

o Card event notification "pop up" messages and robust help

messages;

o Extended system battery life from a new power management

feature which allows end-users to select acceptable idle

time after which the system will "spin-down" their ATA (1) (AT Attachment) The specification for IDE drives. See IDE.

Another enhancement is that PC DOS 7 now supports more PC platforms via expanded socket services support -- the low-level PCMCIA host controller software layer. PCM+ for PC DOS 7 now includes support for the industry's most popular controllers from Intel, Cirrus Logic, Databook, Ricoh and IBM. This added support enables PC DOS 7 to provide PCMCIA support to the majority of PC platforms on the market. Automatic detection of the PCMCIA host controller reduces the memory footprint by only loading the necessary drivers.

In addition to supporting more PC platforms, 45% more PC Cards can now be used with PC DOS 7. Under the Phoenix Card Certification Program, launched last fall, more than 250 PC Cards are certified compatible with PCM+. A wide range of PC Cards are supported, including fax/modem, LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. , rotating storage (ATA), multimedia as well as global positioning (GPS) and wireless.

"We want to provide the best utilies available in PC DOS," said Karl LaWall, PC DOS worldwide brand manager, IBM Personal Software Products. "With PCMCIA support from a leading company like Phoenix Technologies, we are able to offer PC DOS 7 users a high-quality product that is easy to use and provides the highest degree of compatibility."
