PhoNet Communications Introduces WAN Gateway to Provide Voice Communication over Intranet or the Internet Data Networks.

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 1997--PhoNet Communications announced the introduction of EtherGate, a WAN Gateway that provides telephone service over Intranet or Internet data networks.

EtherGate links public switched telephone networks and packet-switched networks to establish connections between EtherPhone sites. EtherGate supports telephone to telephone, telephone to PC, PC to PC communications across any type of data network, regardless of topology topology, branch of mathematics, formerly known as analysis situs, that studies patterns of geometric figures involving position and relative position without regard to size. .

In addition to reducing costs, it simplifies an organization's infrastructure by making one large system out of any number of geographically separate sites such as branch offices.

EtherGate is available now at $2,395, for each side.

"To ensure the highest possible quality of voice over IP and the greatest ease of use, we are providing users with a complete hardware and software solution," said Yaron Baratz, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of PhoNet Communications.

"In addition, we have made the Internet connection as simple as possible to use so that users can adopt to EtherGate quickly and easily. Users who now dial '9' for an outside call through a public switched network, can now dial '8' to make a call through the Internet. The call will then be routed just as if the user were calling from a station on the remote PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). . What is more, he or she will continue to enjoy the same GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  interface and advanced telephony features of the EtherPhone," he added.

To save on the bandwidth required and enhance voice quality, EtherGate compresses the EtherPhone's voice data packets to less than 6K -- which are then transmitted over the data network in real time. When received at another EtherGate location, those compressed packets are decompressed and sent to the dialed extension. Systems administrators can manage an enterprise-wide EtherPhone system connected by EtherGates from a single location. In addition to simplifying an organization's infrastructure, this makes call center functions available to branch offices.
