Philosophical Practitioner Will Present the 2001 Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture.


Dr. Lou Marinoff, author of the popular philosophical practice selfhelp book, Plato, Not Prozac will present the next Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture The distinguished Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture (AKML) series was begun in 1952.  and founding president of the American Philosophical Practitioners Association, Dr. Marinoff began counseling clients in 1991, working philosophically with individuals, groups, and organizations. He has published numerous scholarly articles in decision theory, ethics, philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, and political philosophy. In his book Plato, Not Prozac: Applying Philosophy to Everyday Life (HarperCollins 1999) and in his practice, Dr. Marinoff shows clients how the ideas of the world's great thinkers, from Kierkegaard's thoughts on coping with death to the I Ching 's guidelines on adapting to change, can illuminate and improve our lives.

Other speakers known for their innovative thinking, research, and writing who have given the lecture include Ellen J. Last year, the 2000 Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture was given by Robert P. Pula Robert P. Pula, (1929–2004) was a Director Emeritus of the Institute of General Semantics, author of A General-Semantics Glossary, and a composer. The Institute for General Semantics' annual dinner and lecture will take place on Friday evening, November 9, 2001, at the Yale Club in New York City.
