, refinery.

When the expansion is completed in early 2002, the refinery will have the capacity to process 20,000 more barrels of crude oil per day, making more gasoline available to American motorists.

The Borger refinery is one of Phillips' largest operating facilities, currently processing 130,000 barrels of crude oil per day and producing 81,000 barrels -- the equivalent of 3.4 million gallons -- of gasoline daily. The expansion project will increase the refinery's gasoline production by more than 200,000 gallons per day, enough to fill the tanks of nearly 14,000 automobiles. The project also will increase the refinery's production of low-sulfur diesel fuel by approximately 500,000 gallons per day.

"This type of project helps us achieve our mission as an efficient supplier of fuels to the Front Range of the Rockies and the upper Midwest The Upper Midwest is a region of the United States with no universally agreed-upon boundary, but it almost always lies within the US Census Bureau's definition of the Midwest and includes the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as at least the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. ," said Thurman Nance, general manager of the Borger refinery.

"Phillips is continuing to play a proactive role in providing a greater supply of gasoline to the market, while fulfilling our commitment to producing a cleaner, more environmentally friendly Environmentally friendly, also referred to as nature friendly, is a term used to refer to goods and services considered to inflict minimal harm on the environment.[1]  product," said Mike Panatier, executive vice president of refining, marketing and transportation.
