Phillips, UOP Form Licensing Alliance for MaxCat Coke Reduction Technology.

Phillips Petroleum Company (NYSE: P) and UOP LLC today announced they will form an alliance to jointly license and support Phillips' MaxCat(TM) Coke Reduction Technology (CRT) worldwide. UOP expects to be in position to fully support the technology by the end of this year.

"UOP brings to this alliance the experience and know-how they have generated through the years by providing designs, catalysts, and service to more than 700 reforming units around the world."

Developed at Phillips' research and development facilities in Bartlesville, Okla., the process additive technology is in use at Phillips' U.S. refining facilities and at a licensee's Kansas refinery. Additional licenses for the technology have been signed and are currently being implemented. MaxCat(TM) CRT helps refineries manufacture the additional octane barrels needed for clean fuel production from existing semi-regenerative catalytic reformer units. The flexibility of this technology allows refiners to reduce coke buildup on catalyst, thus increasing octane barrels, run lengths and unit throughput.

MaxCat(TM) CRT yields these benefits at very low capital costs - as little as $20,000 for most refinery applications.

MaxCat(TM) CRT has gained commercial experience at seven different units. In one example, it improved the product octane by 1.5 research octane numbers over previous runs, with the unit operating at comparative conditions.
