3D Intelligent display solutions

Philips 3D displays, based on WOWvx(TM) technology, are the latest in the company's long history of display innovation and deliver stunning out-of-screen 3D effects without the need for special glasses or filters. Initial distribution will be for the professional market, with such applications as out-of-home advertising, digital signage, the medical industry, and others.

3D content creation and visualization

The 3D display solution from Philips is a complete end-to-end 3D system that supports the process from 3D content creation up to visualization. Some applications today already use a 3D dataset, but deliver a 2D image at the end. Philips now unlocks this content by supporting the visualization in 3D. This includes computer animations, real-time 3D applications such as games, and video conversion from 2D to 3D as well as stereo to 3D conversion tools.

Excitement from every pixel

Philips Lighting will be showcasing the latest advancements in its Aptura(TM) lighting technology. This innovative backlight technology allows for extreme motion sharpness, superb contrast in dark scenes, vivid colors and sparkling images, and has been used to produce the world's first 120Hz scanning backlight, which results in a CRT-like performance. In addition, the latest in LED backlight technologies will be shown by means of a 32" Wide Color Hybrid.

One of the key components of the Aptura(TM) lighting technology is the High-Output fluorescent lamp, called HCFL. The Aptura(TM) lighting technology is capable of producing three times more light than conventional LCD backlight units and enables development of flat panel screens of up to 66 inch. These lamps give a consistent performance, without affecting brightness or color spectrum during their long lifetime. HCFL lamps can be used for backlights in landscape (regular TV set) as well as portrait (information display) formats. Such information displays, suitable for such open spaces as airport terminals, where high light output is required, will be displayed in the booth.

Papers

For further explanation on innovative backlight technologies of Philips, several papers will be presented at the symposium: "Locally Switchable 3-D Displays," "Algorithm for Contrast Reserve, Backlight Dimming and Backlight Boosting on LCD," and "Adaptive Dual Pulse Backlight for LCD-TV displays."
