Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets from Qualcomm are to be used to support the wireless local area network (WLAN) module from Philips.

The solution will provide WLAN network connectivity, be suitable for current cellular networks and will be compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g protocols on WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) A 3G high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that use the TDMA or GSM technology worldwide, including AT&T (formerly Cingular) and T-Mobile in the U.S.  and CDMA2000 networks.

According to Philips, the integration of its WLAN solutions with Qualcomm's MSM chipsets will introduce a new mobile standard to wireless users. The solution is expected to be available commercially by the end of this year and will be supported on the MSM6550 chipset at first.
