Philips bCool Series Projectors Set New Standard for Compact Ultra-Portable Projection.

Business Editors

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2003

Philips is making mobile presentations easier and more powerful with the introduction of its new bCool(TM) Series ultra-portable projectors. The bCool Series projectors have reset the benchmark in power and portability for mobile presenters. These stylish units connect to a PC or laptop in seconds and project large, brilliant images with astonishing a·ston·ish

 contrast, clarity and color fidelity.

Philips' new bCool Series projectors put an end to the compromise between performance and portability. Remarkably compact and weighing as little as 3.5 lbs., the bCool Series outperforms projectors weighing twice as much. Now, mobile presenters can deliver presentations with razor sharp graphics, deep rich contrast and striking video images - anywhere, anytime.

The bCool Series includes two models: the bCool XG1 offers XGA (EXtended Graphics Array) A screen resolution of 1,024x768 pixels. The term stems from IBM's XGA display standard introduced in 1990, which extended VGA to 132-column text and interlaced 1,024x768x256 resolution. XGA-2 later added non-interlaced 1,024x768x64K.  native resolution and weighs only 3.5 lbs., the bCool SV1 provides SVGA (Super VGA) A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. Third-party vendors extended IBM's VGA display standard and were the first to use the term. SVGA has also referred to 1,024x768 resolutions. See PC display modes.  native resolution and weighs 4.2 lbs. Both units use the latest DLP (Digital Light Processing) A data projection technology from TI that produces clear, readable images on screens in lit rooms. DLP is used in all types of projection devices, from data projectors that weigh only a few pounds to large rear-projection TVs to electronic (TM) technology and miniature 180-watt high-efficiency lamps to achieve a 2,000:1 contrast ratio and deliver 1,700 and 1,400 ANSI Lumens, respectively.

"Philips' bCool projector Series offers mobile users an unbeatable presentation option and takes the term 'road warrior' to a whole new level with its powerful light output, compact size and high resolution," said Steve Barlow, product marketing manager, Philips Consumer Electronics Philips Consumer Electronics is a part of Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. (usually known as Philips); and is one of the largest electronics companies in the world. In 2005, its sales were € 30.4 billion (US$38. , North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. . "Often, power and resolution are lost in a lightweight projector, but we have combined the latest in DLP(TM) technology with a powerful, efficient lamp to provide users the best of both worlds - an ultra-portable projector that provides unmatched presentation power."

Extraordinary Brightness and Contrast

The bCool projectors utilize a highly advanced, ultra-miniature DLP(TM) light engine to achieve unprecedented levels of light output. Precise optical components provide unmatched image definition far beyond what is possible with typical compact projectors. For situations where full projection power is not needed, Philips offers its exclusive SmartDimmer feature that also extends lamp life.

Lightweight, Compact and Durable

Smaller and lighter than many laptop computers, the bCool Series projectors are built to withstand heavy wear. Road warriors

Simple, Easy and Intuitive

The Philips bCool Series features an advanced digital architecture that allows set-up in seconds and makes the projectors incredibly easy to use. There is a wide choice of video and data inputs, including composite video, S-video, component video, RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images.  inputs. Philips' powerful SmartSet(TM) auto-alignment system and highly intuitive menus make set-up fast and easy - even for the novice user. A zoom lens provides additional flexibility for changing screen sizes in varying room conditions. In addition, the bCool series features Philips' exclusive PAS(TM) (Philips Air System) and SmartDimmer that work in unison to reduce audible noise to just 33 dB for the bCool XG1 and a remarkable 32 dB for the bCool SV1. The projectors also feature Digital Zoom, Digital Freeze, Digital Keystone Correction and Picture in Picture.

Extremely Reliable

The Philips bCool series features a 180-watt short arc, high-efficient lamp that is end-user replaceable. Under normal usage mode, the average lamp life of the bCool series is 1,500 hours, but this can be extended to 2,000 hours in SmartDimmer mode. Lamp life is conserved with the special SmartSave(TM) feature that automatically switches the projector off when not in use. Additionally, the projectors are backed by a three-year limited warranty Limited warranty

covering parts and labor. The limited warranty includes the Philips First Choice program, which offers a free help line for assistance and technical support, seven days a week. The bCool XG1 projector will be available in August and will retail for $3,650. The bCool SV1 projector will be available in September with a retail price of $2,250.

Powerful Security

While the bCool projector is attractive to users, Philips' SecurityMax makes it extremely unattractive to potential thieves. A non-erasable start-up screen clearly identifies the rightful owner. The projector also can be programmed to shut down automatically after a certain period - only a PIN code can reactivate re·ac·ti·vate
