promote clinical confidence for the physician and peace of mind for the patient," said Jay Mazelsky, senior vice president, nuclear medicine, for Philips Medical Systems. "Philips recognizes the importance of accurately viewing the physiological process at a molecular level and works to develop technologies that help our customers detect pathology earlier, faster and more accurately."

The installed base of Philips GEMINI TF PET/CT systems continues to grow globally--with more than 30 installed systems worldwide--due to strong customer satisfaction and clinical performance. The GEMINI TF with time-of-flight imaging has demonstrated improved image quality, reduced dose, faster scan times, and consistent image quality across all patient sizes.

"We've really gone another giant step forward in image resolution with time-of-flight," says Dr. Jim O'Donnell, section chief of Nuclear Imaging at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and associate professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio "Cleveland" redirects here. For the Cleveland metropolitan area, see . For other uses, see Cleveland (disambiguation).
Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state.
. "And the differential improvement in moving from conventional PET to time-of-flight is most prominent in larger patients because it overcomes the inherent physiological problems of size. The system really cleans up the scans in these larger patients."

Also on display is Philips BrightView SPECT. The BrightView SPECT system offers exceptional image quality in a fast, easy-to-use package and is surprisingly compact given its capabilities. The exclusive BodyGuard feature automatically contours to the patient, using a unique customizable scan distance preset preset Cardiac pacing A parameter of a pacemaker that is programmed permanently when manufactured  by the operator. Differentiated further by exclusive Philips CloseUp technologies that enable higher resolution through smarter software, new electronics and minimal distance between detector and patient, BrightView SPECT is outfitted with a wide range of innovations to help healthcare providers manage patient care, regardless of patient size.

As a Philips "Green Flagship" product, BrightView is an example of Philips' dedication to providing technology with a sustainable life cycle that meets the needs of customers and society. Philips BrightView SPECT is proven to deliver substantially better environmental performance, using less than 50 percent of the hazardous substances found in its predecessor. BrightView is also designed to offer significant advances on packaging, recycling and disposal.

The Philips MOSAIC HP is the latest addition to Philips' comprehensive preclinical imaging product portfolio. With its extra-long imaging bore and long axial axial /ax·i·al/ (ak´se-al) of or pertaining to the axis of a structure or part.

Equipped with a high performance LYSO LYSO Lutetium Yttrium Orthosilicate (scintillator crystal)  detector and optional subject handling system compatible with the NanoSPECT/CT system, MOSAIC HP addresses the key requirements of research scientists and is setting new standards in preclinical molecular imaging.

Additional Philips nuclear medicine highlights at SNM 2007 include the commercial availability of the following:

PET/CT Pulmonary Toolkit for Respiratory Correlated Imaging

Designed based on customer feedback, the PET/CT Pulmonary Toolkit uses advanced respiratory monitoring technologies that improve the diagnostic accuracy of PET/CT scans and to better integrate the diagnosis and treatment of oncology patients. Respiratory correlated imaging applied to PET improves the accuracy of PET attenuation Loss of signal power in a transmission.
Attenuation

correction and Standard Uptake Value (SUV) calculations, assists in small lesion detection and facilitates more precise localization Customizing software and documentation for a particular country. It includes the translation of menus and messages into the native spoken language as well as changes in the user interface to accommodate different alphabets and culture. See internationalization and l10n. . In radiation therapy it is also used to match PET and CT data for more accurate representation of tumor size and shape and improved assessment of tumor motion.

This new offering meets customer requirements for clinical applications in nuclear medicine, radiology and radiation oncology without sacrificing comfort for patients or ease of use for physicians.

PET/CT Viewer for Philips iSite PACS and version 1.5

Further enhancing the value of the GEMINI PET/CT is the PET/CT Viewer, providing users with a truly integrated, powerful, yet simple image review and analysis environment for routine clinical evaluation clinical evaluation Medtalk An evaluation of whether a Pt has symptoms of a disease, is responding to treatment, or is having adverse reactions to therapy  of PET/CT examinations. Philips has extended the availability of the PET/CT Viewer beyond the Philips Extended Brilliance Workspace to the Philips iSite PACS environment, along with introducing the latest release of version 1.5.

The PET/CT Viewer for the Philips iSite PACS addresses the need for universal PACS-based review of hybrid and multi-modal registered studies. The new system supports fused viewing of PET, CT, MR, and 3D SPECT and is available for iSite Radiology and iSite Enterprise. Added features include viewing layouts customized for a multi-monitor PACS environment, easy quantitative tools for SUVs and HUs, and quick saving of key images back to the PACS archive for a streamlined user experience.

, 4D Fusion and faster image load. These features continue to improve efficiency for the clinician reading the exams and make routine archive and date storage functions easier for the technologist.

NetForum PET/CT Community

Philips has expanded its NetForum community to include PET/CT. Previously available to Philips CT and MR customers only, the NetForum PET/CT community is connecting Philips PET/CT customers from around the globe in a moderated virtual users meeting to share clinical experiences, learn from each other and optimize results. NetForum provides instant access to informative protocols, clinical case studies, applications tips and more. Registration is free and open to all Philips PET customers.

NanoSPECT/CT

Available through a distribution agreement with Bioscan Inc. announced earlier this year, NanoSPECT/CT will help accelerate preclinical research, the discovery of new targeted biomarkers and the development and validation of new molecular diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The higher system sensitivity and sub-millimeter resolution achieved with NanoSPECT/CT through its patented Multiplexed Multi-Pinhole technology enables fast, dynamic SPECT scans - capabilities never before efficiently achieved on a preclinical SPECT imaging system. This is particularly helpful for monitoring and for accurate quantification of organ uptake and physiological changes with high temporal sampling, an important tool for preclinical research in oncology, cardiology cardiology
