Philadelphia Society hosts Award's Night in May; recognition given for outstanding achievements.

) held their annual Award's Night last May at the Battleship battleship, large, armored warship equipped with the heaviest naval guns. The evolution of the battleship, from the ironclad warship of the mid-19th cent., received great impetus from the Civil War.  New Jersey in Camden, NJ.  were honored as 50-year members of FSCT/PSCT. Special recognition from FSCT FSCT Federation of Societies for Coating Technology

Special recognition was also given through the unveiling of a perpetual plaque containing a portrait of Wayne Kraus. The plaque will list speakers who present at the annual "Wayne Kraus Honorary Technical Lecture."

Highlighting the evening was the awarding of the prestigious "Ben Franklin Award" to both Sam Firestone and Wayne Kraus. This award is given to those retired Presidents that remain active in servicing the affairs within PSCT. Current President Bruce Matta detailed the accomplishments of both men and their long history of service. Both Mr. Firestone and Mr. Kraus had previously received the "Liberty Bell Award" for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the protective coatings industry and to PSCT. They are two of the founders of PSCT's four "Eastern Training Conference Shows." Most recently, Mr. Firestone assumed responsibility as the ByLaws The rules and regulations enacted by an association or a corporation to provide a framework for its operation and management.

Bylaws may specify the qualifications, rights, and liabilities of membership, and the powers, duties, and grounds for the dissolution of an
 Chair and successfully amended the Society bylaws to bring them into compliance with FSCT. Mr. Kraus was recently named Technical Chair and he coordinated October's technical symposium on "An Overview of Latex Architectural Paint."

The evening climaxed with the surprise announcement that PSCT's annual "Manufacturing Night" will be renamed "The Sam Firestone Annual Manufacturing Meeting." The Board of Directors wished to extend their appreciation for Mr. Firestone's many years of "being the voice" for the manufacturing side of the coatings industry within the Philadelphia area. He was given a plaque commemorating this name change.
