The new board represents the diversity of the Philadelphia region's public relations industry, which includes communications professionals employed by corporations, agencies, and nonprofits, as well as sole practitioners. Philadelphia PRSA, which will celebrate its 55th anniversary in 2007, has nearly 600 members in the greater Philadelphia region.

This year will be especially pivotal for Philadelphia PRSA, as it has been chosen to host the PRSA International Conference from October 20-23, 2007. More than 5,000 public relations professionals from across the country are expected to attend.

In addition to the national conference, another key initiative this year for Philadelphia PRSA is to offer public relations programming and education to the 6,000 members of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, of which it is a member. "We want to help small to medium sized businesses understand the value of public relations and how to utilize it in their strategic planning Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people. ," says Schmidt.

With that in mind, this year's PRSA Philly board plans to expand the invitation list of some of the chapter's seminars and programs to include other business professionals to which they can be of value.

"The Philadelphia area boasts some of the top PR professionals in the country," Schmidt says. "We want to continue to communicate that to the greater business community."
