) contract to develop a family of Radio Frequency (RF)/Microwave (MW) Down Converter Modules in a PXI (PCI EXtensions for Instrumentation) A peripheral bus specialized for data acquisition and real time control systems. Introduced in 1997, PXI uses the CompactPCI 3U and 6U form factors and adds trigger lines, a local bus and other functions suited for measurement  (PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

(2) (Peripheral Component Interconnect) The most widely used I/O bus (peripheral bus).
Extension for Instrumentation) form factor from the Naval Air Warfare Center The Naval Air Warfare Center was a former U.S. Navy military installation located in Warminster, Pennsylvania and Ivyland, Pennsylvania.

The U.S. Navy purchased the grounds to establish this facility from the Brewster Aeronautical Corporation following its bankruptcy in the
AD (Lakehurst, N.J.). The intended use of the Down Converter modules is in portable/transportable Synthetic Instrument Test & Measurement (T&M) systems in support of both Mil/Aero and commercial (dual use) T&M applications up to 26.5 GHz. The modules will be developed and demonstrated over a seventeen (17) month period at Phase Matrix's San Jose, Ca. facility.

BAE Systems of San Diego, Ca. is a Phase II SBIR investor and will take delivery of a set of Down Converter modules for prototype evaluation and potential application in factory, field, and/or depot Synthetic Instrument based T&M systems.

Pete Pragastis, Phase Matrix President, stated that: "This award will further solidify Phase Matrix`s position as a premier supplier of modular RF/MW instrumentation in small form factor formats such as PXI and VXI (VME EXtensions for Instrumentation) A peripheral bus specialized for data acquisition and real time control systems. Introduced in 1987, VXI uses all Eurocard form factors and adds trigger lines, a local bus and other functions suited for measurement applications. ."

Dr. Michael N Granieri, Phase Matrix SBIR Program Manager, also stated that: "This award opens an exciting new marketplace for Phase Matrix in the development and application of Down Converters in support of highly mobile PXI-based test systems; these test systems can be embedded in a prime system or deployed to remote sites that require an RF/MW signal analysis T&M capability in the form of Synthetic Instrumentation."
