We compared the post-treatment maintenance effect of pharmacotherapy pharmacotherapy /phar·ma·co·ther·a·py/ (-ther´ah-pe) treatment of disease with medicines.

 20 mg/day for 3 months. Group B (n = 85) was given the same dose for the same period together with behavioral therapy (start-stop/squeeze techniques). The two groups were tracked at the end of the treatment and one month after discontinuing treatment. In group A, 81% of patients were satisfied with the results versus 85% in group B. After one month, 37% of patients in group A reported maintenance of therapeutic effects vs. 73% in group B. The immediate results of pharmacotherapy and pharmacobehavioral therapy were comparable; however, the maintenance of the therapeutic effect was significantly better with pharmaco-behavioral therapy.
