Petrol fire ' unites' Oppn for May 31 national strike.

THE petrol bomb that the UPA has hurled on to the people has become an opportunity for the Opposition to mount a joint offensive.

Just as BJP chief Nitin Gadkari sounded a war cry at the party's national executive in Mumbai on Thursday, veteran leader L. K. Advani gave a call on behalf of the NDA for a nationwide strike against fuel hike on May 31. Incidentally, the Left parties too have announced a protest that coincides with the NDA's plans on the last day of this month.

For the UPA, the latest hike may just prove to be the political equivalent of the proverbial last straw. The BJP has clearly sensed it with the party president announcing that the time has come for the " BJP to come back to clear the mess created by the Congress". " The Congress is the problem," Gadkari was quoted by the party general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad as telling the BJP national executive, " and the BJP will be the solution". Advani, on his part, issued a fervent appeal to the people to " unite and participate" in the all- India protest. " The UPA has suddenly increased the price of petrol by more than ` 7 which will create further misery for the people who are

already suffering great difficulty because of severe price rise," Advani said.

" The government seems to have completely run out of ideas as far as management of inflation, particularly food inflation is concerned. In the history of the country, there has never been such a steep rise on a single day in the price of petrol. The gross mismanagement of the economy by the UPA is significantly responsible for this.

The common man will be the biggest sufferer.

To protest against this, the NDA has decided to organise a day- long protest on May 31," Advani announced.
