NRPA has also taken the first steps to providing an urban agenda for city park and recreation departments nationwide. The Urban Park Summit initiated by NRPA, and supported by the National Recreation Foundation, launched with impressive response, endorsing our initiative to build an urban park and recreation agenda for cities of all sizes.

More internally, monthly review of the association's economic status and long range budgeting have been the key ingredients of maintaining our financial stability. The three-year extension and acceptance of John Thorner to remain as executive director provides the association and staff with the continuity that should assure work still in progress will proceed.

this past year. Committee and task force members have been reviewing past practices and future needs of the association and seeking solutions to some of our known problems. I thank all involved and look forward to the results of this effort.

Perhaps the highlight of this past year for me has been the opportunity to meet with so many park and recreation advocates around the nation at various conferences, regional meetings or special activities. I leave every meeting with the same thought: how amazing a·maze

Progress has been made in many areas, problems have been solved and solutions are being sought for those that still remain. The association is moving forward, gaining momentum, and I have confidence that all our members will contribute to the goal of elevating parks and recreation as a priority in every community.

I appreciate the opportunity to represent NRPA and look forward to the coming year.
