Abilene Christian University: Mark Cullum promoted to assistant professor. University of Alabama at Birmingham UAB began in 1936 as the Birmingham Extension Center of the University of Alabama. Because of the rapid growth of the Birmingham area, it was decided that an extension program for students who had difficulties which prevented them from studying in Tuscaloosa was needed. : Brian D. University of Arkansas The University of Arkansas strives to be known as a "nationally competitive, student-centered research university serving Arkansas and the world." The school recently completed its "Campaign for the 21st Century," in which the university raised more than $1 billion for the school, used , Fayetteville: Robert C. McMath appointed professor; David L. Chappell promoted to professor.

Auburn University: Charles Israel appointed associate professor; Joseph Turrini appointed assistant professor; Wayne Flynt and David Edwin Harrell Jr. have retired.

Austin College: Max Grober named chair.

Baylor University: Barry G. Hankins promoted to professor and named graduate program director; Kimberly R. Kellison and Eric C. Rust promoted to professor.

Bucknell University: Mary DeCredico named provost.

Campbell University: Lloyd Johnson promoted to professor; James Martin is on leave spring 2006.

Delta State University History
Established in 1924 by an act of the Mississippi Legislature, Delta State Teachers College first opened its doors to students in 1925. The name was later changed to Delta State College (1955) and then Delta State University (1974).

College of the Ozarks Enrollment is 1,500 to 1,600, and all tuition costs for students are covered by a workstudy program.
