Personal medication dispenser. (Product Spotlight).

Interactive Medical Developments (IMD) has made available the MD.2+, a fully automated medication dispensing and tracking system with a built-in Personal Response System. The coffeepot-styled medication dispenser holds up to 60 medication cups filled with the appropriate medications. Through a friendly voice reminder, the unit announces when it is time for medications. When the button is depressed to dispense, a verbal message such as, "Take meds with food," is also delivered with the cup.

If medications are not dispensed, the unit will take action and call caregivers to inform them of a missed dose. All dispensing data can be viewed via the secure Internet IMD support center.

The Personal Response System allows the client to wear a small, lightweight, waterproof pendant to signal a fall or medical emergency. The MD.2+ is connected to the phone line and dials a 24/7 call center where, through the system's two-way speaker/microphone, a trained attendant will determine the nature of the emergency and dispatch appropriate help.
