EdgeXtend for C++ Release 8.0 Increases System Performance and

Resilience While Improving Developer Productivity

Persistence(R) Software (Nasdaq:PRSW), the leading provider of real-time data services software for financial services and other data intensive markets, today announced the immediate availability of EdgeXtend for C++ Release 8.0 featuring major improvements to performance, resiliency, flexibility and developer productivity. With this latest release, the name changes from Persistence PowerTier for C++ to Persistence EdgeXtend for C++. EdgeXtend for C++ joins EdgeXtend for BEA WebLogic, EdgeXtend for IBM WebSphere, and EdgeXtend for .NET in the EdgeXtend family of Persistence products.

EdgeXtend has gained worldwide acceptance at financial trading, telecommunications, and transportation / logistics organizations for its advanced caching and cache synchronization capabilities. This release again extends Persistence's lead in data management and distribution for C++ applications, with features that include:

-- Cache indexing of any object attributes, and cache-only

querying of those attributes - allows users to maximize

performance by making more use of EdgeXtend's advanced

caching. For applications with high transactions processing

requirements, manipulating all of an application's operational

and reference data in the cache is a major performance win.

-- Guaranteed cache synchronization - ensures that cache sync

messages are never lost, even if the database server or

messaging service crashes, improving system resilience. This

feature increases the robustness and reliability of EdgeXtend

for C++, especially for complex mission-critical applications.

-- Union-style inheritance and concrete superclasses - allows

users to store all classes in an inheritance hierarchy in the

same database table, and to instantiate any of the classes and

superclasses, for more flexible object models and database

schemas, and more general purpose object-oriented code.

-- Optimized generated code - reduces the interdependencies among

generated header files, which means that application compile

times will be substantially reduced, for increased

productivity and ability to adopt an agile development 

processes.

This release of EdgeXtend for C++ supports Oracle, Sybase, DB2, Informix, and SQL Server, as well as standard enterprise hardware, operating systems and messaging products. An additional improvement for C++ developers is the ability to use the powerful capabilities of the Standard C++ Library, which will improve developer productivity and increase compatibility with third-party toolkits and modern C++ compilers.
