Perle Systems, a developer and manufacturer of networking products for IP and e-business access made the announcement today in response to IBM's iSeries 400 support of Gigabit Ethernet as the latest Ethernet standard for the iSeries 400.

To support Gigabit Ethernet, the iSeries 400 requires the use of a 1 Gbps input/output adapter. IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  has stated that SNA (Systems Network Architecture) IBM's mainframe network standards introduced in 1974. Originally a centralized architecture with a host computer controlling many terminals, enhancements, such as APPN and APPC (LU 6.  is not supported over the 1 Gbps adapters IOAs so, SNA Traffic would require ANYNET as a mechanism to transport the SNA traffic over Gigabit Ethernet. With ANYNET enabled Perle 594 customers can easily move to Gigabit Ethernet with no effect on functionality or performance. There is even the potential for improved performance with the increased Ethernet speed.

networking using ANYNET. Perle's 594 controllers use ANYNET to ensure that all applications (display and/or printer) are fully supported over any TCP/IP network. This allows iSeries 400 users to move to an IP network while retaining valuable Twinax devices at remote sites.

"Offering the only controllers that support ANYNET makes Perle a must-have for IBM iSeries 400 users," said Joe Perle, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "Perle controllers protect users' large investment in hardware, applications and employee training, by enable a fast, cost effective way to transport SNA over TCP/IP without replacing existing Twinax."
